Eskom mulls selling stake in power project

Last Updated January 13, 2010

South African utility explores sale to meet funding shortfall.

Eskom, South Africa’s state-backed electricity company, could sell up to 49% of its planned Kusile power plant to make up a shortfall in funding for the project.

Press reports quote the group’s acting CEO, Mpho Makwana, as saying that the board would explore the possibility of a sale to help meet the R385bn (€36bn) cost.

The group is expected to appoint advisers for the sale in February and then ask for bids.
