The extraordinary general meeting of shareholders and the board of directors of Alfa Bank have elected Johann Jonach as chairman of the board. In this post Jonah will overlook the board of directors and will be responsible for working out and realising Alfa’s strategy on the Russian and international financial markets. Jonach’s chairmanship is combined with his activity as CEO of the banking group, consolidating five banks in Russia, Ukraine, Netherlands, Kazakhstan and Belarus.

Before joining Alfa Bank, Jonah served as chairman at Raiffeisenbank in Austria and Bulgaria. The new appointment is set to strengthen Alfa Bank’s leading position in the Russian retail and corporate financial markets and to ensure a closer interaction inside the banking group. Former chairman, Peter Shmida, will continue as a member of the board.
