The GCC nations’ natural resources lie at the heart of their continued recovery, writes Joseph Trevisani.

The politics of oil. In the Persian Gulf and for the nations of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) – Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and the United Arab Emirates – they are insuperable. Despite many efforts to diversify their economies, most notably by Dubai, and development plans to create alternative sources of economic growth to the extraction of crude oil, these states remain wrapped in the promise of their geography.
