New manager joins Africa equities fund team.
Invest AD, Abu Dhabi’s state-owned investment company, has hired Stephane Bwakira to help manage its Africa equities fund.
Bwakira, who has launched and managed funds for South African investment manager Stanlib, joins the team running its Emerging Africa Fund.
The fund focuses on banking, mining, manufacturing and consumer products across several countries, including Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya.
Bwakira, who has also been an equities analyst at investment bank Investec, said the fund will be paying particular attention to companies in the cement and infrastructure industries.
“I’d say that a major theme in coming years is the underinvestment in infrastructure from the 1960s to the early 1990s, which has created a backlog of needs on the continent,” he added.
