Elfring promoted while De Giorgi joins from Goldman Sachs.

Bob Elfring and Diego De Giorgi have been named as Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s co-heads of corporate and investment banking in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Elfring has been promoted from the bank’s head of investment banking in the Benelux and northern Europe, while De Giorgi has been hired from Goldman Sachs.

De Giorgi joins in January after 18 years at the bank, where he is currently a partner and chief operating officer of its investment banking division.

Several key figures in BAML’s investment banking team have left in recent months, including Andrea Orcel, executive chairman and emerging markets president, who has joined UBS.

Elfring and De Giorgi will be based in London reporting to Christian Meissner, head of global corporate and investment banking. They will also report to incoming president of Europe and emerging markets (ex-Asia) Alex Wilmot-Sitwell, who is joining the bank from UBS in the coming months.
