Munro takes post as Leith moves to head of strategic expansion.

Standard Bank has announced that David Munro is the new chief executive of its corporate and investment banking operations.

Munro joined the bank in 1996 and, until the announcement, was the head of its South African corporate and investment banking business.

He replaces Rob Leith, who has led the business from London since 2008. The appointment follows the bank’s announcement that it will stop developing new overseas business in order to commit greater resources to its domestic African markets. Munro will lead the business from Johannesburg.

Leith has moved to head of group strategic expansion where he works with Standard Bank’s chief executive, Jacko Maree, on various growth initiatives.

Munro’s replacement has yet to be named.
