Some 30 years separate Richard Thomas’s current role as CEO of Islamic bank Gatehouse and his first job in trade finance counting furs in a dark warehouse. During that time much has changed in the financial markets, but for Thomas there’s been a constant: financing business should be about business – its stock, its assets, its people, and not derivatives or other fancily packaged instruments.
