African-focused investment firm promotes MacKenzie to CEO.
Sub-Saharan Africa-focused Ethos Private Equity has appointed Stuart MacKenzie as its new CEO. He replaces founding partner Andre Roux, who will stay on as deputy chairman and chairman of the firm’s investment committee.
MacKenzie has been at Ethos since 1998, becoming a partner in 2002 and joining the firm’s executive committee in 2009. He takes up his new position on January 1 next year.
Ethos makes long-term investment in medium-sized and large businesses in South Africa and a handful of other sub-Saharan markets. It is the country’s oldest private-equity firm, raising more than US$1.9bn in funding since 1992, US$800mn of which was raised in a deal last year.
