Roger Jenkins, executive chairman of the Barclays Investment Banking and Investment Management businesses in the Middle East, will leave the bank to set up his own corporate finance advisory house.

The new firm – as yet unnamed – will target sovereign wealth clients and focus on alternative investment opportunities, as well as advising Barclays Capital on its Middle Eastern businesses.

Jenkins, a renowned deal-maker, has spent most of his career at Barclays, starting as a graduate trainee. He also spent six years at Kleinwort Benson, where he was co-head of financial markets and head of global private placements. In 1997, he was one of the founding members of Barclays Capital. In addition to his role in the Middle East, he was chief executive of Barclays Private Equity and principal investments at Barclays Capital from 2006.
