Tripling of the bank’s resources also on the agenda at annual meeting.

Dr Donald Kaberuka is set to be re-elected as president of the African Development Bank (AfDB) this week at its annual meeting.

The former Rwandan finance and economic planning minister, who is contesting unopposed, became the bank’s seventh president five years ago and conformation of his re-election will be made at the meeting held in the Ivory Coast’s capital, Abidjan, on 27-28 May.

Also to be approved is the tripling of the bank’s capital resources to nearly US$100bn, which was recommended by a group of its shareholders in Washington D.C in April.

The meeting will be attended by heads of state and government ministers from across Africa, who will witness seminars such as Making Finance Work for Africa, Climate Change and Development Financing, Capacity-Led Growth: Lessons from Emerging Countries and Turning Africa’s Resources and Revenue into Results.
