Investor to raise up to US$500mn.

The Carlyle Group, a global investment firm, is to launch an Africa-focused fund.

A source close to the fund confirmed the plans to EMEA Finance but added that the US$750mn target suggested in press reports is inaccurate and that the fund is likely to be smaller than US$500mn in size.

Carlyle currently targets North Africa through its US$500mn MENA Buyout fund.
