Berla hired to focus on EMEA investments.

Sarona Asset Management has opened an office in the Netherlands to improve its focus on opportunities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The Canadian firm, which has C$180mn under management in emerging and developing markets, has also appointed Vivina Berla as a senior partner and European managing director.

Berla, who will be based in Amsterdam, has worked in the institutional and alternative asset management industries for more than 15 years, holding positions at Merrill Lynch and Gartmore Investment Management.

In July, the firm committed €1.25mn to Pera Capital Partners Fund I LP, which invests in Turkish SMEs.
