€9.2mn loan will help to finance Hidro Prahova’s investment programme.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has given a €9.2mn (US$12.2mn) loan to a Romanian water and wastewater operator.
Hidro Prahova, which covers the Prahova area in the southeast of the country, will use the money as part of its €146.2mn investment programme, which is also being backed by €116.5mn in funding from EU Cohesion Funds and money from local and state governments.
The investment programme will help the company to raise the quality of drinking water in line with EU directives and increase people’s access to water and sewerage services. The investment is expected to reduce Hidro Prahova’s water losses and lower the company’s operating costs.
The company also plans to use the money to introduce up to 5,000 new solar panels in its wastewater treatment plants.
