Alternative investment offering gets new faces.

Barclays’ wealth management business has continued the development of its alternative investment origination and distribution teams by making four new appointments.

Boudewijn Jansen joins as head of private equity origination with Sarah Newman taking charge of hedge fund origination. They will report to Thomas Fekete, Barclays Wealth’s head of EMEA investment products.

Jansen joins from HSBC Alternative Investments where he was global head of private equity. In his eight years at the bank he was responsible for developing the fund of hedge fund and the private equity product offering.

Newman has spent 14 years in the equity derivatives and fund linked products/derivatives businesses. She joins from Credit Suisse and has also worked at JP Morgan Chase and BNP Paribas.

Thomas Fekete, head of EMEA investment products, says Barclays is investing extensively in its alternative origination team. “The talent we have been able to attract and will continue to attract is evidence of the aspirations we have to grow and enhance our proposition.”

Meanwhile, Barclays Wealth has also hired Jamie Murray as a director of its EMEA distribution team. Murray was recently an associate director at financial PR firm Broadgate Mainland and has also worked as an executive director at Morgan Stanley Alternative Investment Partners and HSBC, where he was head of business development and distribution within its hedge fund business.

Also joining the team is hedge fund specialist Emily Smart. Before accepting the role she was a director at UBS AG Wealth Management.

Craig Lewis, Barclays Wealth’s EMEA head of relationship management and distribution, explains that alternative investments are an integral part of the bank’s offering and these new additions proves it can attract top people. He adds that the bank will “continue to expand in this area” as they look to grow the business.
