New MD to focus on oil and gas deals for investment bank.

Troika Dialog, a Russian investment bank, has strengthened its oil and gas expertise by appointing a new managing director.

Sergey Popov, who took up the role in early September, will oversee the structuring and execution of deals in the oil and gas sector.

Troika’s head of investment banking, Andrei Sharonov, describes Popov as an experienced investment banker and a welcome edition to the team, which has recently added three more specialists to its investment banking department.

Popov has worked in Russia’s financial markets for three decades and prior to joining Troika Dialog held several managerial positions within organisations such as VEB USSR, the EBRD, Citigroup and LUKOIL Financial Services.

He says there is enormous potential in the commodities sector. “As the market continues its revival following the crisis, there is ever greater demand for companies offering quality investment banking services – structured deals, M&A, arranging securities sales.”

Troika Dialog was formed in 1991 providing securities sales and trading, investment banking, private wealth and asset management and alternative investments. Today it has offices in London and New York.
