Shearman & Sterling project finance counsel, Iain Elder, will transfer to the firm’s Abu Dhabi office at the end of August as part of Shearman & Sterling’s continued commitment to the region.

Elder, who was based in the firm’s London office, has more than 10 years’ experience advising on energy and power sector project development and financing and acquiring and disposing of assets in the energy sector. Before joining Shearman & Sterling, he worked in Singapore and Dubai.

Nick Buckworth, head of the firm’s project development and finance group, says: “Iain's move is part of our regional growth strategy. We are currently involved in various very large scale, complex transactions in the Middle East and north Africa.  Our strength and depth in London and Abu Dhabi enable us to offer clients the highest level of service across the region.”

Among Sherman & Sterling’s most prominent deals in the first half of 2009, was its role in advising on the US$2.1bn Al Dur water and power project in Bahrain.
