Vicario takes new role

Position created to support emerging market corporate banking.

Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML) has appointed Fernando Vicario as its head of corporate banking for emerging markets outside of Asia.

This is a new role, which he takes up with immediate effect, has been created to increase the bank’s emerging market focus.

Based in London, Vicario reports to Joel Van Dusen, global head of corporate banking, and Andrea Orcel, executive chairman of global banking and markets who is also president of emerging markets (excluding Asia).

Vicario joined the bank in 1995 and has since held several senior management positions, including leading its EMEA corporate banking operations and EMEA global product head. His most recent role was head of corporate banking for financial institutions in EMEA and Northern CEEMEA.

This new position was created due to emerging markets being a key focus for BAML’s corporate banking division. As part of this strategy, the bank has formed strategic agreements with institutions in Turkey and the UAE.

One of Vicario’s duties will be to represent corporate banking on the emerging markets (excluding Asia) executive committee.
