SHUAA Capital, a GCC-based financial services firm, has appointed Walid Shihabi as head of its securities businesses.

Shihabi takes up his new role at SHUAA Securities in September when Mohammed Ali Yasin vacates the post. He has more than 12 years experience of the GCC’s financial markets and re-joins the firm where he spent seven years as head of research until 2009. Before that he held the same position at Dubai-based brokerage Dubex Securities International.

SHUAA Capital’s chief executive, Sameer Al Ansari, described Shihabi as a “unique candidate” for the position due to his experience of the firm and the markets it operates in.

Shihabi says he is excited at taking responsibility for an “outstanding” brand in the region’s securities trading market and believes there remains “tremendous avenues for growth” available to the company.

SHUAA’s brokerage has some 130 employees providing access to Arab stock markets for local, regional and international investors.
