Private banking director strengthens Egyptian team.

HSBC has named Fatima El Ouarti as a director in its Egyptian private banking team.

She will be based in London, reporting to Fouad Batshon, head of Egypt in the bank’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) division.

El Ouarti has more than a decade of private banking experience and joins from Goldman Sachs where she was a relationship manager focusing on Egypt. Prior to this she was an associate director at Barclays.

Bassem Snaije, head of the MENA private banking team, says Egypt has seen rapid growth in recent years due to high commodity prices, strong capital flows and a pro-reform government. “Many Egyptian individuals have strong links with the UK and travel here regularly, making London a strategic centre to cater for Egyptian clients’ needs,” he adds.

El Ouarti’s appointment is the latest in a series of recent hirings in HSBC’s MENA private banking division. In October, Anthony Hingley and Hicham Najem joined as directors. Hossam Al Saady became head of the London-based Saudi Arabia team a month later.
