EIB appoints new president

German minister Werner Hoyer replaces Philippe Maystadt after 12 years.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has appointed Werner Hoyer as its new president.

Hoyer is minister of state at Germany’s Foreign Office, responsible for European policy, and a member of the German parliament. He also is Germany’s commissioner for Franco-German cooperation.

He becomes the seventh president of the EIB since it was founded in 1958. He succeeds Philippe Maystadt who leaves after 12 years in the post.
