Layfield replaces vice chairman-bound Mike Hart.

Standard Chartered has named Diana Layfield as chief executive of its Africa business.

Layfield, who takes up the role in June, will be responsible for driving the bank’s business across the continent. She succeeds Mike Hart, who is leaving the post to become vice chairman for the bank’s Africa operations. He has held the position since 2006.

Layfield has been promoted from head of strategy and corporate development. Her previous senior management roles at the bank included chief operating officer for wholesale banking and group head of global corporates.
